Can a Real Estate Agent Take One’s Own Photos?

Real estate agents often market their business by saying they offer a full-service experience. Part of that service includes taking photos of properties they are listing for sale or rent. But can an agent really take good photos? Is it worth the time and investment to take your own photos when you can hire a professional photographer for a few hundred dollars?

Recently, I have seen more and more real estate agents taking their own listing photos with their smartphones. While this might be fine for some situations, I don’t think it’s the best idea in most cases. Here’s why: Realtors are not photographers. While you might be able to snap a few decent pictures with your phone, it’s highly unlikely that you will be able to take pictures that do justice to the property you are trying to sell or rent. A professional photographer has the training and equipment necessary to take high-quality photos that will make a property look its best.

Time is money. Yes, hiring a professional photographer will cost you a few hundred dollars. But if it means that you can spend your time showing properties and working with clients instead of taking pictures, then I think it’s worth the investment.

You only get one chance to make a first impression. In today’s competitive real estate market, you need every advantage you can get. Don’t risk losing a potential client because your listing photos weren’t up to par. Hire a professional photographer and give your listings the attention they deserve.

Conclusion:

While it is technically possible for a real estate agent to take their own photos, I believe there are many reasons why it’s not a good idea. Realtors are not photographers and cannot compete with the quality of photos that professionals can take. In addition, taking your own photos takes time away from other activities that could be generating income and could result in lost business if the photos are not up to par. Invest in a professional photographer and give your listings the attention they deserve.
